Trina Solar's Vertex 600W+ series modules have demonstrated exceptional operational performance in perennially windy Zhangbei, Hebei province of China, showing no defects in electroluminescence images, a study has found. The study, conducted by China General Certification (CGC), a third-party technical service organization, found the Vertex bifacial modules produced an energy gain of up to 8.82% compared with that of monofacial modules. The results underscore Vertex modules’ reliability and suitability for installation in PV power stations in windy areas, delivering exceptional value to customers.
Vertex modules in Zhangbei outdoor empirical study site
CGC’s Zhangbei outdoor empirical study site is located in the northwestern part of Hebei along the southern edge of the Inner Mongolia Plateau area, which has a temperate continental monsoon climate. Zhangbei is subject to consistent wind throughout the year at an average speed of 15.4 m/s, ideal conditions for the study undertaken.
The CGC study began in September 2022 and lasted for 12 months. Vertex 600W+ bifacial and monofacial test modules were installed using three fastening methods: screws, aluminum alloy clamps, and reinforced method (screws and clamps). The modules were positioned at a minimum height of 0.8 meters above the ground. The PV power station’s installation conditions were simulated to guarantee a comprehensive empirical study.
It was shown that in the first nine months of the study, the Vertex 600W+ modules functioned as they should in windy conditions, with no defects shown in the EL images. The torque values of the bolts and clamps on the modules exceeded 16N, ensuring stability, with no noticeable signs of loosening.
In the three months to June, the Vertex 600W+ bifacial modules generated a total of 2,500.87 kWh of energy. Compared with 600W+ monofacial modules, bifacial modules displayed a marked advantage in energy yield with an energy gain of 8.82%. The study demonstrated that Vertex 600W+ modules provide exceptional reliability and energy yield, ensuring safety and increased yield for PV power plants operating in consistently windy environments to guarantee long-term revenue for customers.
Trina Solar’s Vertex series modules had earlier passed rigorous tests, including a non-uniform snow load test, an extreme low-temperature mechanical load test, a hail test, multiple extreme dynamic mechanical load tests, and an extreme wind tunnel test. Trina Solar has maintained its Top Performer status nine years in a row in the PV Product Qualification Program operated by PV Evolution Labs. Its Vertex N series modules have also passed the extended reliability test of the Renewable Energy Test Center.
