Glasgow-based Edison Energy, along with Trina Solar, has provided hundreds of social housing tenants not only with cheaper, sustainable power, but also in some cases with external wall insulation and rendering to maximise the benefits.

Trina Solar panels were fitted to 133 houses at Clydebank with excess energy being sold to the National Grid. The initial two-year programme included installations at other Knowes Housing Association sites as well as that at Clydebank – a total of 350 houses, and is to be extended to cover a further 1000 homes in central and Southern Scotland. The £2M project, using systems from 2kWp to 4kWp in size, should deliver an annual saving of £70,000, and reduce annual carbon emissions by 500kg.

The community is kept fully apprised of the advantages and possibilities of the scheme; it benefits from Edison’s monitoring of the system after installation and their continued liaison with customers, thus minimising costs and energy usage. Trina Solar’s versatile PC05 module is one of the industry’s most trusted. Highly reliable and able to resist high winds and snow loads plus ammonia and salt mist, more than 2GW have been sold globally to date.
