Stariņi Solar Park

Balvi, Latvia

Utility

Trinasolar has partnered with SIA SolarXpro to bring the Stariņi Solar Park to life in the Balvi region of Latvia. This innovative project features a unique vertical solar panel installation that is poised to be one of the largest such parks in Europe. The park is powered by 5,940 Trinasolar Vertex N bifacial modules, each with a 685 W capacity, positioned in east-west facing rows to optimise energy capture from dawn to dusk.

In addition to solar panels, the park incorporates a 1,200 kWh battery energy storage system (BESS), enabling efficient energy use during peak demand periods, making the park a highly effective solution for grid balancing. The innovative design ensures that vertical panels only occupy 2% of the land, preserving 98% for agricultural use, offering an effective balance between green energy production and land resource optimisation. This approach allows farmers to continue cultivating the land while benefiting from area payments.

The Stariņi Solar Park is not only an engineering breakthrough in solar technology but also a contribution to climate change mitigation. The vertical installation maximises energy output, improving efficiency by reducing panel overheating and increasing power production during the winter months when sunlight reflects off snow. The use of bifacial panels also contributes to enhanced energy capture by harnessing sunlight from both sides of the panel, particularly advantageous for dynamic pricing and electricity generation during peak hours.

This project offers high returns on investment, thanks to the combination of vertical solar panels, energy storage, and minimal land use. It’s a pioneering example of green energy innovation in Latvia, positioning the region at the forefront of Europe’s growing renewable energy market. The Stariņi Solar Park not only generates substantial clean energy but also presents a stable profit opportunity for investors, with significant potential for long-term growth.
