Trina Solar has won all three solar photovoltaic projects with total capacity of nearly 350 MW awarded in Colombia’s first “historic” renewable energy auction. It marks as a milestone for Trina Solar in the global downstream PV project market, especially in the Latin American region.

Colombia’s National Mining and Energy Planning Unit allocated 1.3 GW of new capacity in the auction, of which three were solar parks and five were wind power plants. Projects selected in the auction will be entitled to a 15-year PPA. The auction allows Colombia to raise the installed renewable capacity from its current 50 MW to around 2.2 GW in 2022.

David You, Vice President of Trina Solar and President of International System Business Unit commented that, “Trina Solar’s overseas project development business has already established local teams in key regional markets. We have offices in Colombia Bogota as well as multiple other Latin American countries, and we have also acquired great amount of quality pipelines in this region. It is our great honor to participate in the renewable auction of Colombia and finally win all three solar projects. We are dedicated to working together with Colombian government to do our best to minimize the greenhouse effect.”

Trina Solar is not only the world’s top-tier solar module manufacturer, at the meantime, after many years of exploring and cultivating in the downstream market, Trina Solar has also become one of the leading downstream project developer and class asset provider across the globe. Up to now, Trina Solar has connected over 3 GW of solar power plants to the grid worldwide. As of the end of September 2019, Trina Solar currently has around 400 MW projects under construction in Latin America.
