Trina Solar Leader in Product Innovation

Trina Solar is at the forefront of new technology and product innovation in the global PV industry.

Trina Solar’s State Key Laboratory (SKL) of PV Science and Technology in Changzhou, which has achieved many world records over the years, is a world-leader in its field and employs top scientists from around China and the world.

Trina Solar’s laboratory has set 20 world records during the period September 2011 to November 2019. The most recent is the record set in November for a multi-crystalline i-TOPCon cell. The record-breaking cell achieved 23.22% conversion efficiency, and has been validated by the Institute for Solar Energy Research’s Calibration and Test Center (ISFH-CalTeC) in Germany, a designated test centre for world records.

Also last year, in May, the laboratory achieved 24.58% total area efficiency using a 244.62cm2 two-side contact monocrystalline silicon solar cell. The world record, which applied Trina Solar’s new industrial tunnel-oxide passivated contact (i-TOPCon) process, was also confirmed by the ISFH-CalTeC in Germany.

Trina Solar CEO, Jifan Gao, says these world records are significant because “the excellent results in research and development lays a solid foundation for Trina to provide new, differentiated high-end PV modules and solutions to our customers.”

Trina Solar’s technological break-throughs over the years has led it to apply for more than one thousand patents and, as of October 2019, it has been granted 795 patents.

These technological break-throughs can be found in Trina Solar’s products available on the market today. Technologies that Trina Solar has applied to its products include: bifacial PERC technology, dual glass technology, multi-busbar technology, half-cut technology and n-type i-TOPCon technology.
